How to unsubscribe from the Windows Insider Program

The Windows Insider Program is a good way to test early versions of Windows 10 before its official release to the public. It is not an exclusive club, but in a matter of minutes everyone with a Microsoft account can join.

Perhaps you have already done so to receive the new features of the next Windows update, but you may also want to know how to stop receiving those potentially unstable versions once you have installed the final version.

How to unsubscribe before a new development cycle begins

The best time to unsubscribe from the Windows Insider Program is right before a new development cycle begins (right after a major update is released). In this case, you must follow these simple steps:

1. Open 'Settings'.

2. Go to 'Updates and Security' and select 'Windows Insider Program from the left panel.

3. You should now see a screen same to the one below. Click the switch below 'Stop receiving Insider Preview complications' to turn it on.

4. Restart your PC to activate the changes.

How to unsubscribe when a new development cycle has already started

In this case, the early version of an update has already been installed on your device. Lucky, there is an easy way to revert to the previous version, as long as it has been less than 10 days since it was downloaded.

1. Go to 'Settings', followed by 'Updates and security' and select 'Recover' from the left panel.

2. You should see a subsection that says 'Go back to the previous version of Windows 10'. Click on 'Get Started'.

3. Follow the instructions in the window that appears. Choose the reason why you want to go to the previous version.

4. On the final screen, make sure to click the button to go back to a previous build.

Don't worry: all your files and settings will remain intact. Next, you'll want to completely unsubscribe from the Windows Insider Program. You must follow exactly the same process as before:

1. Go to 'Settings', followed by 'Updates & Security' and 'Windows Insider Program'.

2. Under 'Stop receiving Insider Preview complications', turn on the switch.

3. Restart your device to save the changes.

And ready! You will no longer receive the first versions of future Windows 10 updates. For more information, do not miss our guide on the Windows Insider Program .
